Greetings from Cambodia

It is back to basics at where I live in. No air-con (just a measly fan), no hot water heater, no wardrobes and no proper bed. But at least the bed sheet makes up for everything else. It’s PINK! My all-time favourite colour (: And not forgetting the bottle of red wine just beside the mattress.

The Toyota Corolla that drives me around. Over here it doesn’t matter whether you have a local license or not. If you have the guts to drive, you can go ahead with your life at stake! Though I have to admit that it was hard to adapt to left hand drive at the beginning… I kept moving the car to the left side of the road :x

Work and play Cambodia. That’s what I’m here for haha. This is my friend’s office, which also houses his showroom on the ground floor and living quarters above.

Check out the stone Buddhas. They weigh a ton man!

The mini-garden at the courtyard. Interested to buy the wooden swing? It will set you back by USD 1000!

Phnom Penh is not a small city and so I’m pleasantly surprised to meet Ben Wang (remember, our RJC football opponent) and Richard Low (NJC 04S08) who are here on overseas CIP. But it is only their second day and they are already out sightseeing? Are they here on CIP or holiday?!? I better feedback to SMU. And so the three of us decide to take a photo at the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, whereby 17,000 men, women, children and infants died in the hands of the Pol Pot regime.

Ben Wang exploring the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, which was the largest detention centre during the Pol Pot regime. The Khmer Rouge was meticulous in keeping the records of their barbarism - each prisoner who passed through was photographed, and most of them were later killed. The museum also displayed the various torture tools used and the cells these prisoners were detained in. It really is a harrowing experience for all of us. Shows what happens when power is concentrated in the hands of a few people...

A Gossip Girl Inspired Post
(GG Season 2 Airs in 2 weeks time!)
Gossip Girl here,
Your one and only source into the scandalous lives of the NTU "elite".
Spotted, our very own AJY in the "NTU Hall 6 Pageant" preview on funkygrad.com
http://www.funkygrad.com/campus/displayarticle.php?artID=1086&subcat=rave"This year, Hall of Residence 6 (NTU), welcomes the new batch of pageant contestants, all of whom seem to see themselves as accidental beauty kings and queens"
Could this be the making of an accidental king? Accident or no accident does the Skeleton King have what it takes to rule over another kingdom?
"Ang Jie Yu, the entertainer of the group, felt that it would be Amy Hong because of her daring and spontaneous personality."
We all know JieYu is the absolute entertainer (Notice how jiey is the only one in the photos showing teeth, oozing with confidence, lady killer indeed. But seriously,i think jiey stands a chance)
Curious....Ang(Hokkien) and Hong(Mandarin) both mean red in their respective dialects. Could we be seeing RED anytime soon?
Only time will tell. One more week till the big bash!
Until next time, you know you love me.
XOXO

Thailand 2008 DAY 3: Chatuchak, Food Loft, Newton with a live band?!
Day 3 of our adventure brought us to the Chatuchak weekend flea market. Many of us managed to squeeze in a few bargains here and there (Though i'm still amazed at how we could wake up after that bottle of JW Black Label we had the night before). We battled against the searing heat for a good 3 hours before finally giving in and heading to Chit Lom for lunch.
It was there that we happened to chance upon Food Loft. In a nutshell, foodloft is basically Marche at a really dirt cheap price. 1 Smoked Salmon Sandwich, 1 Thailand Fried Platter, a can of soda and a plate of Deep Fried Bananna Fritters /w vanilla ice cream later......Surprise surprise! Total damage to my wallet:400B. (YES! <$20 for a meal!)
Next up, some night shopping at the local night market (Think Pasar Malam, only 10 times bigger) where we managed to get some "Magic Wallets" cheap. We settled down for dinner at the food centre in the night market where they actually played live music! Newton quality seafood and the Live Music really helped to make dinner that much more enjoyable.
A quick stop by the hotel for a shower and a judo throw off the bed by nic was all we needed to do before heading off for our night activities where a particular song by madonna would be etched into our minds for quite a while.

Thailand 2008 Day 2: More Shopping
The night before was filled with action, drama, suspense and whatever else you'd like to call it. 1200B Poorer and lucky to be alive, we managed to make it back to our apartment to get a good nights rest.
We started out the morning by giving the last to wake up(and the lucky winner is....T.Thong!) a rude awakening.(The following spells were cast to wake him up:Frost Nova, Chain Frost and Frost Arrows)
We proceeded to the wholesale malls to start day 2 of our shopping.First up was Platinum Mall where thong bought a record total of 11 t-shirts, SJ got a pair of "ahhem" shoes while the rest of us were sane enough to only get a few articles of clothing. Pertunam Centre was a big letdown as everything that Platinum Mall had was there but more expensive. Finally we had to revisit Siam in order to get some good ol' Thai food. Naturally a 2nd trip to "Marble House" and the ice cream shop followed.
Our group managed to get back to the hotel in time to see Fed kick the crap out of Safin. It was time for a bath, change of clothes and on to ROUTE 66 for our night activities!

A damn unglam shot of someone..Hurry and tag it to his facebook!

Thai food at 70B/dish (3 bucks!)

Whoops my bad....forgot to rotate the photo before uploading.

That's haz enjoying the finer side of life

The rest of us enjoying the highly acclaimed Thai Foot Massage.Believe me, they REALLY know how to give an awesome foot massage.
